Iowa’s War On Pink

Posted by Chad on September 28, 2005

For those of you not “in the know”, the University of Iowa’s visiting locker room in its stadium is pink. All pink. Lockers, floors, sinks… you name it. It’s pink.

Now that you have been educated to the decor of a university locker room, let me also inform you that this is offensive to women and gays. A pink locker room implies:

You are a girlie man. You are weak, like a girl.

Nevermind that I can’t read that quote without injecting my rather impressive Ahnold impression into it, but most women I know actually embrace the color pink. My roomie has a pink robe. It doesn’t offend me, and I doubt she goes around wearing it to make her feel like a “girlie man”. And what about this? The pink triangle is one of the gay community’s icons. Why on earth would we pick a symbol that would offend us? And hell! Pink is Aerosmith’s favorite color! Are we to assume that Steven Tyler is suffering from low self-esteem due to his love of this “offensive” pigment?

So it’s in the visiting team’s locker room…. Big. Effing. Deal. Honest to God folks. If you’re playing football (or any other sport for that matter) and you come across a pink locker room on some away game and this upsets you to the point of not performing to the best of your athletic abilities, I got news for ya’. You deserve to lose. And laughed at. And towel whipped.

Stop, stop, STOP looking for things to take offense to….

These people are whining and complaining like girlie men and then whine and complain when people point out the obvious – that they look like girlie men.

What are you if you’re not being oppressed in some way though, right?
